William J. Schuler age 95 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Monday morning, November 14, 2016 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born November 13, 1921 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania son of the late James Guy and Agnes (Smith) Schuler.
Bill was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1939.
On June 15, 1944 he married Lois P. Crosbie at the Holy Angels Catholic Church Rectory in Sturgis. She died November 8, 2016.
Bill was employed by Burr Oak Tool & Gauge in Sturgis for 16 years before founding Schuler Tool & Die in Sturgis. A business he operated for over 15 years.
Bill was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII earning the rank of Reserve Aviation Radio Man 2nd Class stationed in the South Pacific.
He was a past member of B.P.O.Elks #1381 and a member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion and served as a Boy Scout leader. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and carpentry work.
He is survived by; two sons: Andrew J. (Robin) Schuler of Burr Oak and Josef G. (Leah) Schuler of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law: Phyllis Schuler of Sturgis; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant daughter: Carol Schuler; two sons and daughter-in-law: William P. Schuler and John C. (Vicki) Schuler; one brother: Bob Schuler and three sisters: Helen Affhalter, Thelma Milliman and Ethel Cranson.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of William J. Schuler will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Bill's daughter-in-law, Robin Schuler will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis where full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
