Norma June Adams age 93 of Sturgis and a former longtime Burr Oak, Michigan resident passed away Wednesday evening March 15, 2017 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born February 22, 1924 in Sturgis, Michigan daughter of the late Leon and Ethel (Matti) Adams.
Norma resided in the Sturgis and Burr Oak area her whole life and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1941.
Norma retired in 1982 from the Kirsch Company following 40 years of dedicated employment. The last 10 years of her employment she was working in quality control. She also owned and operated Sweet Lake Grocery, Gift Shop and Resort in Sturgis which offered overnight cabins.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. Norma was an active member of the Burr Oak community serving on the Burr Oak Council for 18 years, many years with the Burr Oak Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Burr Oak Grange #1350. She enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and loved her pets especially her German Shepherds.
She is survived by two nephews, Richard (Diane) Adams of Lexington, Kentucky and Don (Paula) Adams of Bradenton, Florida and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: William Adams.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. Friends and relatives may call at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday. A graveside service and burial of the ashes will take place at 12:00 P.M. Wedneday. Pastor George Milliman of the Burr Oak Missionary Church will officiate.
As per requested by Norma in lieu of flowers memorial donations would be appreciated to the Animal Rescue Fund, P.O. Box 593, Centreville, MI 49032 or the Burr Oak Grange #1350, 106 Fifth St., Burr Oak, MI 49030 or the charity of one's choice.
