Norma J. Strang Bontrager age 87 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Saturday morning, March 25, 2017 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born September 10, 1929 in Bronson, Michigan daughter of the late John and Amanda Marie (Green) Chapman.
Norma resided nearly her entire life in the Sturgis and Bronson area and was a graduate of Bronson High School.
On September 20, 1947 she married Lewis A. Strang. He died August 29, 1969. In 1987 she married John Bontrager.
Norma retired from the First National Bank in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment as a teller. She had also worked at the Transogram Company in Sturgis.
She was a member of the Sturgis Evangelical Church and past member and president of the Business and Professional Women's Foundation. She enjoyed square dancing, crocheting, collecting Emmett Kelly Figurines, crafts, camping and mushroom hunting. Norma had hobbies and involvements but what she truly loved was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband: John; one daughter: Lori (Paul) Richmond of Vicksburg; two sons: Tom A. Strang of White Pigeon and Gary A. (Fayetta) Strang of Constantine; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband: Lewis Strang; one son: Steve Strang; three grandchildren: Chad Strang, Lewis Strang and Kimberly Ann Richmond; one granddaughter-in-law: Amanda Richmond; one sister: Maxine Heintz and one brother: Melvin Chapman.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Norma J. Bontrager will begin at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Rodger Moyer of the Sturgis Evangelical Church will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be directed to Thurston Woods Village, 307 N. Franks Ave., Sturgis, MI 49091.
