Michael J. Cox age 75 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away early Monday evening November 28, 2016 at the Sturgis Hospital.
He was born July 10, 1941 in Kalamazoo, Michigan son of the late Kenneth James and Dorothy Elizabeth (Rich) Cox.
Mike resided most of his life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1960.
On May 9, 1994 he married Lou Ann James in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mike was a plumber and pipe fitter by trade and a 47 year member of Plumber and Pipe Fitters Local #357 in Kalamazoo. For several years he was involved in the family business, Valley Industrial Piping in Sturgis.
He was a past member of B.P.O.Elks #1381 and enjoyed tinkering with his 1967 Corvette and automobile he owned for 40 years. Mike's greatest joy was time spent with his family especially when he was following the many sporting events of his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife: Lou Ann; two sons: Marc (Donna) Cox of Sturgis and Matt Cox; three grandchildren: Dustin, Jalen and Linsey Cox; one great Grandchild: Leighton Cox; one sister: Norine (Max) Barnes of Sturgis; two brothers: Dennis (Becky) Cox of Lafayette, Indiana and Raymond (Gail) Cox of Port Richie, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three dogs: Winston, Bentley and Skylar.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Michael L. Cox will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Sturgis will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mike's memory consider the Animal Rescue Fund, P.O. Box 593, Centreville, MI 49032.
