Kathleen D. Newman, age 93, of Sturgis, MI passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at Thurston Woods Village.
She was born August 21, 1923 in Sturgis, MI a daughter to the late William and Trilby (Harter) Darby.
Kathleen had been a resident of Sturgis most of her life except for a few years living in Arizona and Fort Wayne, IN.
On June 12, 1943 in Sturgis, MI she married Harold C. Newman. He passed away on April 30, 2000.
Kathleen had worked at Kirsch Company in Sturgis for a short time but most of her life she was a homemaker. She was a "Golden Eagle" member of the Sturgis Eagle's Lodge #1314 and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. She enjoyed flowers, baking cookies, reading, and traveling to the Casino.
Surviving are 4 grandchildren: Laura (Jesse) Yoder, Chad (Melissa) Webb, and Scot (Shannan) Jones all of Sturgis, MI and Joseph Waldron of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 5 Great-grandchildren: Shasta Waldron, Jory Webb, Mackenzie Webb, Hunter Webb, and Savannah Jones; 1 Great-great-granddaughter: Grace Waldron; 1 sister: Shirley (Albert) Miller of Sturgis, MI; 2 son-in-laws: Tom Richmond and Michael Proctor both of Sturgis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Harold, 2 daughters: Sondra Richmond in 2013 and JoAnn Proctor in 2011, 4 sisters: Betty Kinsey, Marie Wilson, Ellen Lemp, and Dorothy Hart; 1 brother: David Darby.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091.
Services celebrating the life of Kathleen D. Newman will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, at the funeral home with The Rev. Jeanne Koughn, First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment and graveside service will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, envelopes are available at the funeral home.
