John C. Frye age 80 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Saturday evening June 17, 2017 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
He was born July 16, 1936 in Elkhart, Indiana son of the late Benjamin Smith and Anne (Craig) Frye.
John resided in Sturgis, at Klinger Lake for the past 54 years. His early life was lived in Elkhart, Indiana where he was a graduate of Elkhart Central High School with the class of 1954. He furthered his education at Ball State University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1958 and later his Master Degree in Education.
John was an educator and had a passion for coaching. He taught Biology at Marcellus and White Pigeon High Schools where he coached basketball and baseball. John was coaching the White Pigeon Chiefs basketball team when the longest losing recorded in the state of Michigan was finally ended. John owned and operated Frye Landscaping Center in Elkhart, Indiana for several years.
John had a true love and appreciation for the outdoors and landscaping and his extraordinary talents will be forever missed by many. He was a servant that was always ready to help others. He took care of so many, especially those around Klinger Lake.
He was a member of the Ball State Alumni Association, loved his dogs, wildlife and fishing, ice skating and other outdoor activities, and supported the many good works of Camp Fort Hill. His wicked sense of humor and punster ability will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
John is survived by two daughters: Cheryl Lynn (Chris) Lentine of Alto and Deborah Anne (Dennis) Muchmore of Laingsburg; two grandchildren: Sophia Anne and Ethan Philip Lentine; one sister: Constance M. (John) McKeague of New Buffalo and the love of his life and soulmate: Barbara Williams of Klinger Lake, Sturgis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Marcia Robertson and one brother: David Craig Frye.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Private burial will take place at the Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, Indiana.
