Joan E. Teadt age 72 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2017 at the Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She was born April 30, 1945 in Sturgis, Michigan daughter of the late Clarence and Alice (Wallman) Teadt.
Joan was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1963.
Joan retired from the U.S. Navy following 29 years of dedicated service to our country earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following her retirement she worked at Grumman-Olson in Sturgis for a number of years.
She was a member of the Radiant Life Church in Sturgis where she was very active in the Children's Education Program and was a member of the small women's group. Joan could always be found helping at the monthly food distribution program and funeral luncheons.
Family was very important to Joan and she loved fishing and all of her dogs.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Larry Smoker, Cathy Teadt Garcia, Linda Smoker Grant, Richard Teadt, Lori Ogden Reed, Carlo Sgambelluri, Rodney Sgambelluri and Elizabeth Sgambelluri Stewart and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Eugene Teadt; three sisters: Barbara Teadt Ogden, Betty Teadt Smoker and Janice Teadt Sgambelluri and nephew: Scott Ogden.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331. Funeral services celebrating the life of Joan E. Teadt will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Radiant Life Church, 907 N. Nottawa St. in Sturgis. The Rev. Ryan Bibb will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Full military honors be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
