JoAnn L. Maravolo age 69 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Monday evening, February 27, 2017 at her home.
She was born April 5, 1947 in Chicago Heights, Illinois daughter of the late Chester and Iona (Cirks) Blackwell.
On October 17, 1971 she married Eugene N. Maravolo in Chicago, Illinois.
JoAnn and Gene began coming to Sturgis in 1972 when they purchased their cottage on Omena Lake and became full time residents in 1978, coming from Chicago.
She retired from Sturgis Public Schools where she had been employed as a secretary at Wall Elementary School for 21 years. Before coming to Sturgis she had worked as a secretary at the Downtown Chicago Motor Club and the Associated Life Insurance Company both in Chicago.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and she enjoyed gardening, biking and staying involved in her church. JoAnn had hobbies and involvements but what she truly loved was time spent with her family especially her grandchildren.
JoAnn is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 45 years: Eugene; two sons: Anthony (Patti) Maravolo of Cedar Springs and Mario (Valerie) Maravolo of Howell; five grandchildren: Marissa, Nicholas, Madeline, Thomas and Nathaniel and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Shirley Ahern and Dianne Dodds.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:00 A.M. Friday March 10 at the First United Methodist Church, 200 Pleasant Ave. in Sturgis where a memorial service celebrating the life of JoAnn Maravolo will begin at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Jeanne Koughn and Pastor Robert Keim will officiate. A time for sharing memories and a meal will immediately follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
