Jean Eckert age 94 of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and a former resident of Sturgis passed away late Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Huron Woods in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She was born May 19, 1922 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, daughter of the late Virgil and Louise (Rippey) Mast.
Mrs. Eckert resided in Sturgis until 1948 when she and her husband moved to Ypsilanti where they lived until 1980. They returned to Sturgis and lived there until 2005 when they moved to Ann Arbor to be closer to family.
On November 11, 1945 she married Albert Eckert in Sturgis. He died December 9, 2010.
She retired in 1981 from Washtenaw Community College following many years of dedicated employment as a secretary. She had also been employed by the Ann Arbor Trust Company for five years as secretary to the bank president.
Mrs. Eckert was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Amos Sturgis Chapter. She enjoyed serving as church organist, sewing and drawing.
Mrs. Eckert is survived by two daughters: Carol (John) Schultz, Virginia (Robert) Combs, and one daughter-in-law Judy Eckert; one sister-in-law, Judy Mast; five grandchildren: Sandra Lehman, Edward Eckert, Vicki Juback, Deborah LaMay and Jennifer McFadden; 16 great grandchildren; two step grandchildren: Bryan (Laura) Schultz, and Brad Schultz; 2 step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son: Owen Eckert and one brother: Dale Mast.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Jean Eckert will begin at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the church. The Rev. Darin Warnacke will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
