Duane Harley Fair age 91 of Bronson, Michigan passed away Saturday afternoon March 18, 2017 at the Sturgis Hospital Emergency Room.
He was born January 10, 1926 in Noble Township, Michigan son of the late Marshall and Wava (Pocock) Fair.
Mr. Fair was a lifelong Bronson area resident and a graduate of Orland High Scholl in Orland, Indiana with the class of 1944.
On June 6, 1953 he married Sarah Jane Metzger at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Church in Bronson.
Mr. Fair was a dairy farmer his entire working life until his retirement in 1995.
He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War earning the rank of Corporal and served as the assistant to the Chaplain. One of his favorite memories while being in the Army was decorating Christmas trees.
He was a member of the Bethel Gilead Community Church and Orland American Legion Post #423. Mr. Fair enjoyed working with his cows, farming, traveling, his many cats and dogs, flower and vegetable gardening and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions and the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Mr. Fair had many hobbies and enjoyments but what he truly loved was time spent with his family especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and of course Sarah's cooking.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 63 years: Sarah; four daughters: Dixie Kleinjans of Holland, Karen Frantz of Orland, Indiana, Martha Fair of Bronson and Diane (Brian) Clemens of Battle Creek; two sons: Kevin (Sandy) Fair of Bronson and Curtis Fair of Sherwood Township; 14 grandchildren: Aaron Kleinjans, Robin Kleinjans, Rod (Amy) Fair, Ryan Fair, Sarah Sexton, Jillanne (Kevin) Caro, Blake Gilroy, Melody Gilroy, Jostin Fair, Kegen Fair, Collin Fair, Masie (Corwin) Myers, Anastasia Clemens and Dakota Clemens; 10 great grandchildren: Jada, Joseph, Colin, Marshall, Emerson, Isaac, Abel, Olivia Addelyn and Kolton; one sister: Betty King; one brother: Arland (Marjorie) Fair and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter and son-in-law: Becky and Bill Gilroy and one brother: Irvin Fair.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284 and on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at the Bethel Gilead Community Church, 876 Block Road in Bronson where funeral services celebrating the life of Duane H. Fair will begin at 11:00 A.M. Thursday. The Rev. Jim Erwin will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Bronson.
