Daniel I. Beery age 72 of Battle Creek, Michigan and a former longtime resident of Sturgis and Bronson passed away Wednesday evening January 4, 2017 at the Parkview Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was born August 4, 1944 in Branch County, Michigan son of the late Leo and Eleanor (Lilly) Beery.
Dan resided in Battle Creek for the past 8 years. Before moving to Battle Creek he lived in Sturgis and his early life was lived in Bronson.
On April 20, 1963 he married Jan B. Ulrich in Angola, Indiana.
Dan retired in 2008 from the Burr Oak Tool & Gauge Company in Sturgis following over 36 years of dedicated employment.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and past member of B.P.O. Elks #1381 also in Sturgis. Dan enjoyed bowling, vegetable gardening, working in his yard especially mowing his lawn on his riding lawn mower and building things with his talented hands. He loved sports and was a loyal and avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. For many years he coached and managed the Burr Oak Tool & Gauge fast pitch softball team. His children often times have said they felt like they grew up at the softball fields with great memories. Dan had hobbies and involvements but what he truly loved was time with his family especially when he was attending his children's and grandson's many sporting and musical events over the years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Jan B. Beery; three daughters: Lori D. Beery Owen of Sturgis, Lisa D. (Melissa) Beery of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Leah D. Fleisher of Battle Creek; two grandsons: Joshua and Sean Fleisher; one sister: Gloria (Skip) Kamrath of Wisconsin; one brother Leo DeVon (Carolyn) Beery of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Lyn David Beery, June 7, 1997; one sister: Barbara Jean Beery and two brothers: Lloyd Beery and Alvin Beery.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-3284. A memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Daniel I. Beery will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bronson.
